TSCA 30/30: June 14, 2017
Keller and Heckman LLP and Cardno ChemRisk present a webinar series on the changes to the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) resulting from the June 22, 2016 passage of the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act (Lautenberg Act).
June 14, 2017 Topic: EPA's Evolving Approach to "New" Polymers Under TSCA
With the TSCA “polymer exemption” and favorable review under the TSCA section 5 PMN review process, commercialization requirements for “new” polymers under TSCA historically have been less onerous than for non-polymers. Last June’s enactment of the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act, however, resulted in a significant change to EPA’s treatment of polymers. From initially requiring an “upfront” 90-day toxicity study, to four new polymer categories with tiered testing and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, Tom Berger and Marisa Krieder discussed EPA’s evolving approach to new polymers under TSCA.
This webinar discussed:
- Statutory Changes Impacting Polymers
- PMN backlog issues
- Issuance of New “Options” Letters
- New Categories of Polymers of Concern to EPA
- Testing and PPE Requirements
