Sean Stokes Quoted in Broadband Breakfast Article on Utility-Based Broadband
Keller and Heckman Partner Sean Stokes was quoted in the Broadband Breakfast article, “Utility-Based Broadband Touted as Solution for Addressing Digital Divide.” The article discusses a utility-based broadband model, which was one of the topics of a panel Sean sat on during the Broadband Communities Summit. The panel discussed how broadband infrastructure can be seen as a fourth utility, following water, gas, and electricity. “Although utilities rarely want to be an internet service provider,” said Sean, “they are uniquely positioned to effectively run the network and lease it to providers.”
Sean continued, “Entities looking to invest in large-scale infrastructure investments are not making realistic assessments of the actual cost of deploying infrastructure, cost, and time to access utility poles, increased cost and delay in supply chains, and labor shortages. The best solution is to utilize the assets that utilities already have in their toolbelt.”
