Keller and Heckman Named 2015 Recipient of JCS Pro Bono Legal Service Award
Keller and Heckman was named a 2015 recipient of the John Carroll Society Pro Bono Legal Service Award on Sunday, October 4, 2015. The Award is presented annually to lawyers and law firms that have provided outstanding service to the Catholic Charities Legal Network. In the fall of 2013, Keller and Heckman attorneys Douglas J. Behr and members of the Firm’s Pro Bono Committee, approached Catholic Charities Legal Network about volunteer opportunities. Since that time, Keller and Heckman’s attorneys have volunteered regularly to conduct in-person client intake at the Legal Network.
The JCS Pro Bono Legal Service Award is presented following the Red Mass, an event celebrated annually at the Cathedral of Saint Matthew the Apostle since 1953. The event unofficially marks the opening of the Supreme Court’s annual term, and the congregation frequently includes members of the Supreme Court, the Executive branch, members of Congress, diplomats, academics, attorneys, and law students. The JCS Pro Bono Legal Service Award was accepted on behalf of Keller and Heckman by attorney Doug Behr.
In addition to Catholic Charities Legal Network, Keller and Heckman’s attorneys volunteer their time with the District of Columbia Bar Pro Bono Center’s Advice and Referral Clinic, the American Association of Retired Person’s Legal Counsel for the Elderly, and other programs.
