Herb Estreicher Quoted in Article on Continued Use of DEHP
Keller and Heckman Partner Herb Estreicher was quoted in the Bloomberg Law article, “EU Chemical Agency Committees Advance Application for Continued Use of DEHP.” The article discusses how the first application for an authorization to continue to use a chemical that otherwise would be prohibited under the European Union’s REACH regulation has moved a step closer to approval with the finalization of two expert committee opinions on the matter, the European Chemicals Agency said January 3.
ECHA said its Risk Assessment Committee and Socioeconomic Analysis Committee had agreed that the applicant, British engineering company Rolls-Royce, should be granted a seven-year authorization to continue to use bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) in the manufacture of fan blades for airplane engines. DEHP is one of the first hazardous substances to be slated for phaseout under REACH and was the first to prompt an authorization application.
