David Fischer Quoted in Article on EPA Potential to Scrap PFAS TSCA Exemptions
Keller and Heckman Counsel David Fischer was quoted in the Inside TSCA article, “EPA Could Seek to Scrap PFAS TSCA Exemptions Despite ‘Voluntary’ Plan.” The article discusses how the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) push for industry to give up already-granted low-volume exemptions from TSCA review for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) is an attempt to “collaboratively” roll back approvals that officials have the authority to revoke unilaterally.
David noted that he does not expect significant risk reduction from rolling back the LVEs. “The volumes are really quite low; the exposures are minimal. It wasn’t like the agency didn’t take a hard look at PFAS, even a couple of years ago,” he said of the new chemicals review process.
According to David, addressing all PFAS in the same way “paints all PFAS with the same brush which I don’t think is the way to go. They are remarkably diverse.”
