Craig Simpson Authors EFFL Article on Control and Enforcement of Mineral Oil Aromatic Hydrocarbon Contamination of Food in the EU
Keller and Heckman Partner Craig Simpson authored a European Food and Feed Law Review (EFFL) article titled “Trying to Run Before You Can Walk: Control and Enforcement of Mineral Oil Aromatic Hydrocarbon Contamination of Food in the European Union.” The article critically assesses the European Union (EU) enforcement approach to food contaminated with mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons (MOAH). This is currently based on an agreement between EU Member States to withdraw or recall food products in which a quantified presence of MOAH is confirmed. The article concludes that this approach – which will likely result in significant business interruption in relation to a wide range of food products – is questionable from both a legal and scientific perspective.
