Azim Chowdhury Quoted in Article on Vaping Companies’ Tax Confusion
Keller and Heckman Partner Azim Chowdhury was quoted in the Bloomberg Tax article, “Vaping Companies Flee Some States Amid Tax Law Confusion.” The article discusses how thousands of small vapor businesses are struggling to comply with the Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking (PACT) Act, which forces all e-cigarette companies to register with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and state tobacco tax administrators for tax collection.
Azim, along with Tami Wahl of Modern Advocates, drafted a letter on behalf of over 60 businesses and advocacy groups, asking Congress to perform an economic impact study on the PACT Act amendment. “The concept of these requirements without running a true economic impact analysis is incredibly short sighted,” Azim said. “Our goal is to get Congress to see how agency and state failure to implement is hurting legitimate business.”
