OSHA and FCC Holding Joint-Workshop to Discuss Safety Issues Related to Communication Tower Workers

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently announced that they will be holding a joint-workshop to discuss safety issues related to communication tower workers.  Last year more tower climbers were killed on the job than in the previous two years combined.  As a result, the safety practices of the industry are being closely scrutinized by OSHA.  The joint workshop will discuss two issues:

  • Factors contributing to the high rate of tower climber injuries and fatalities; and
  • Best practices that ensure tower climber safety and prevent injuries and fatalities.

The workshop will be held on Tuesday, October 14th from 9:00 am until 12:30 pm at the FCC Headquarters, 445 12th Street S.W. in Washington D.C.

Associates from Keller and Heckman’s Communications and Workplace Safety and Health practice groups will be in attendance and can provide interested parties with a recap of the workshop.  Please contact Kelly Friend at 202-434-4228 or David Sarvadi at 202-434-4249 for more information.
