Since 2008, the Chinese authorities have been working diligently to expand on and modernize the regulation of food-contact materials and articles. Last year, the Food Safety Law was amended and implemented, and the authorities have now completed an extensive overhaul of the national Food Safety Standards for food packaging. On November 18, 2016, the Chinese authorities published the final version of many GB food packaging standards that the industry has been anxiously awaiting.

Keller and Heckman's Shanghai office presented a complimentary webinar that provided insight into the requirements on the amended GB 9685 Standard on food packaging additives, as well as the other GB food packaging standards related to paper, resins, coatings, metal and rubber. These standards take effect next year.
