More and more food companies are exploring ways to communicate that their products are made with ingredients that have not been genetically modified (GM) or sourced from genetically modified organisms (GMOs) to respond to the growing consumer demand for information about GM status on a "right-to-know" basis. At the same time, many states have either passed or tried to pass legislation to require mandatory GM labeling of food and prohibit the use of "natural" claims on certain foods that contain GM ingredients. Ballot initiatives in 4 states have failed.

This 45-minute webinar will help food companies understand what they can say regarding the non-GM status of their products based on draft guidance issued by the Food and Drug Administration.  We will also discuss the type of substantiation that is needed to support the use of a non-GM claim and the type of non-GM claims that may be viewed as misleading or deceptive. Finally, we will provide an update on the legislative efforts at the State and Federal level and discuss the future of GM labeling.
