Adtech & Metrics: EU Law Evolutions and Tomorrow’s Legal Strategies
Keller and Heckman LLP is pleased to announce a complimentary webinar, Adtech & Metrics: EU Law Evolutions and Tomorrow’s Legal Strategies, hosted by Partner Peter Craddock on Thursday, 16 May 2024, at 3:00 p.m. CET.
Ads & metrics increasingly a target
Digital advertising and audience metrics form an integral part of many organisations’ digital strategy, yet have been increasingly targeted by regulators and campaigners, notably within the EU in the framework of enforcement of the GDPR. Even the EU legislator has been looking hard at online advertising, with laws such as the Digital Services Act (DSA) and Digital Markets Act (DMA) regulating certain forms of advertising and combinations of personal data.
Consent is increasingly brandished as the “only” available legal ground (also under the ePrivacy provision commonly called the “cookie” rule), and contextual advertising is claimed to be the only valid ad-funded business model. Regulators and campaigners even assume all information is “personal data,” sometimes without any in-depth assessment.
But is that legally correct, and is there any reason to question that?
A webinar looking at legal strategies for ads and metrics
During our complimentary two-hour webinar, Peter Craddock will walk attendees through some of the recent and forthcoming evolutions affecting adtech and metrics, and will discuss legal strategies for handling or even challenging them. Topics covered will include measurement, attribution and monetisation, the impact of the choice of technology and the issue of legal grounds available.
This webinar will address the following questions:
- Digital advertising and metrics: is “personal data” really involved?
- Evolutions from regulators, courts and legislators: is “consent” the only option left?
- Restricting business models: does the fundamental right to data protection trump the fundamental freedom to conduct business?
The webinar will touch upon various technical topics, and will be attended notably by in-house lawyers, data protection officers, and product owners from within the adtech & metrics industry and from digital platforms. It will repeat core concepts and context to ensure attendees are on the same page, but it is not geared towards individuals with little to no understanding of the sector or of the technologies involved. If you would like to attend a more basic webinar on digital advertising and metrics, please say so in the ‘Special Requests’ part of the registration form.
This webinar is geared primarily towards businesses active in the adtech/metrics industry, digital platforms, and publishers. In that context, by submitting the form, you acknowledge that Keller and Heckman LLP may verify that a person requesting registration matches the intended audience.
