Webinar: Spectrum Acquisition for Critical Infrastructure Companies

Critical Infrastructure Entities are increasingly seeking additional spectrum on the FCC's secondary markets to support digital oil fields of the future, smart grid technology, and positive train control systems. These companies use dedicated spectrum to support mission critical applications, including next generation wireless technologies, including higher speed SCADA, distribution automation, load control and AMI.  The FCC has dismissed these requests in favor of setting aside spectrum for auctions intended for commercial wireless providers or unlicensed communications, prompting CCI companies to purchase spectrum from current licensees including holders of area-wide licenses previously auctioned by the FCC.

Keller and Heckman LLP's telecommunications attorneys will explore the narrowband, wideband and broadband spectrum options available via secondary market transactions during this webinar.  The program will also focus on the energy industry, identifying the frequency bands in which utilities and oil and gas companies are successfully securing spectrum for applications and those bands which have proved problematic. In addition, this webinar will provide an overview of the spectrum acquisition process, including the FCC secondary market rules, associated construction obligations, and common pitfalls to avoid in the spectrum acquisition process.
